The reason for this range is some studies include creative jobs in non-arts professions (in-house graphic designers for manufacturing firms) and others include all self-employed artists. I usually use 8,000 when talking about people who make a living in Vermont as artists or arts professionals. Nationally, the "arts sector" employs about 4% of the workforce, according to research done by Americans for the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts using Dun & Bradstreet and Bureau of Labor statistics. Hope this helps!Alex Aldrichhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11674640206677556835noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7381800234354913101.post-57889284324675368262010-12-02T12:00:13.073-05:002010-12-02T12:00:13.073-05:00Alex, this is great! Do we have any indication of how many people are employed in arts-related professions? Here's my long-held-suspicion (of which I would love some validation,) we need to support arts in our schools because millions of people are employed in arts-related industries. Anything that requires a sense of visual or aural design requires some familiarity with arts - and in the information age, that's a lot. Thank you for a thought-provoking post!Cecilehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10385251535926425652noreply@blogger.com
